After receiving the script, television producer Ryan Murphy spent a year convincing the Saul Zaentz estate, Michael Douglas, who controlled the screen rights to the movie “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and the rights to the Nurse Ratched character. The series’ music was written by Mac Quayle, who usually works with Murphy, and it resembles Bernard Herrmann’s iconic score.
