Personal Life Of Judith Lorraine Lynch

Born in 1944, Judith Lorraine Lynch first met her ex-husband, Gary Ridgway in 1985 and they soon started dating. After three years, the couple decided to get hitched in 1988. Gary Ridgway, the notorious serial killer known as the “Green River Killer” was convicted of killing at least 49 women in the duration of his 13 years of marriage with Judith Lynch.

Lynch met Ridgway at a Seattle-area bar in 1985. She was 32, and he was 38. Lynch was a single mother raising two young daughter and had just ended a long-term relationship. Meanwhile, Ridgway had been married twice and was the father of a son. Despite the age difference, the two began a relationship.

Before & After Ridgway’s Arrest

At first, Lynch didn’t know anything about her new boyfriend’s past. She knew he had been married and divorced twice, but that was it. In 1988, the two were married in a small ceremony in Seattle. Lynch then moved in with Ridgway in Auburn, Washington.

For the next 13 years, Lynch lived with Ridgway and remained largely unaware of his past. She had no idea that he had been linked to the murders of at least 49 women, many of whom were prostitutes. She claims she never heard him confess to any of the murders and she never saw him exhibit any violent behavior.

In late 2001, Lynch finally learned the truth about her husband. Ridgway had been arrested in connection with the Green River killings and was facing a possible death sentence. Lynch was devastated. She was also angry that she had been kept in the dark for so long. In 2002, with the help of her lawyers, Lynch broke her marriage with Ridgway. She was present at the sentencing hearing in December 2002.

After her ex-husband’s sentencing, Lynch moved to Eugene, Oregon where she began writing her memoir, “In the Shadow of the Green River Killer.” The book was published in 2007 and details Lynch’s difficult relationship with Ridgway and her struggles to deal with his criminal activities. The book was praised by critics who noted the bravery it took to write such an honest and revealing story.

Lynch has continued to write and has published several books, including a novel, “The Little Cottage in the Woods,” and a collection of poetry, “With You in My Heart.” In addition to her writing, Lynch is also a member of the board of directors of the King County Coalition Against Domestic Violence and is a volunteer with Victims of Crime and Leniency.
